So far today seemed fairly awful. All the same Bonnie tried not to really get into that particular mindset. She knew that once she decided it was a bad day that it would stay one. She didn’t want to end up on that particular track. She liked to see herself as an optimist, but then again, what high schooler is ever truly an optimist. It just isn’t in their body chemistry.
This morning Bonnie’s alarm had failed to go off. She rushed through her regular motions, but things didn’t turn out well. Her hair was holding an awkward shape, she had messed up her makeup, and the sweater she had grabbed and pulled on was itchy. Some of this was salvageable, and Bonnie did what she could. Upon going downstairs things got worse. Her mother was passed out on the couch wearing yesterday’s clothes. It had to be the results of last night, what did they call it? Thirsty Thursday? That was it. Bonnie didn’t have time to solve this problem, so she hopped in her car and went to school.
It was strange how that place felt like a sanctuary to the sophomore. Her first few classes went well, despite having left a few worksheets she needed for class at her home. It as an unpleasant addition to her day but a totally manageable one.
The end of the day was the best so far, study hall. She sat alone in the library getting some work done. Bonnie liked her peace and quiet, and she didn’t always get enough. Home was on her mind though, unfortunately. She didn’t want to go back there in half an hour to listen to her mother try to make up for her appearance this morning. Bonnie sighed and flipped idly through the pages of her Chemistry text.
