Bonnie gathered up her folder as chairs scraped against the tile floor in the classroom. ECAs were all well and good, but none ranked higher than student government in Bonnie’s mind. After all what activity could better display leadership, or that was what it was supposed to do. Did she honestly believe it? Yes. Did that make it true? Not necessarily. Bonnie was certainly independent enough, but being a leader is a whole other matter. As a sixteen year old it was alright that she had yet to fully grasp this. She was in that stage in her life that preceeded independence, the one in which she could only do as much as she could just to control some of the life around her. Most of this was done through seperating herself from problems through distance without actually solving them yet. That was a beast that she was not yet ready to face.
Bonnie slipped the folder into her backpack. She wanted to get going. Most afternoons since Nana died she went to starbucks to do her homework. She had a little laptop that she used to do her homework, and there was cheap coffee and free wifi there. She hopped into her grandmother’s old car. Her main purpose in going there was to avoid the distraction of her mother. Marianne was starting to spiral again, and it made Bonnie anxious to be around. She didn’t know how to help the situation so she stayed clear of it as much as possible. By the time Bonnie usualy got home her mother was sober and there were just a few more broken plates. It wasn't all that big of a deal.
Bonnie pulled into the parking lot and locked her car. It clanked in protest as she put it into park and turned it off. It was a bit of a junker, but dear enough because of old memories. Still who was she to turn down a car, any car at all. Bonnie went in, going up to get some coffee before she sat down and took a crack at her history homework. The place looked pretty empty, which was nice. She could get a corner table to herself, becuase those seats were the most comfortable.
